Neil R. Lebowitz, Esquire currently presides as the president of the Maryland Employment Lawyers Association (“MELA”) and is the proprietor of Lebowitz Law Firm located in Columbia, Maryland. Admitted to practice in both Maryland and the District of Columbia, he is also authorized to represent clients before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. His practice spans the entirety of Maryland and D.C., focusing on a comprehensive range of legal services, including:
- Employment law: Discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, workplace mistreatment, Americans with Disabilities Act, failure to provide reasonable accommodation, Family and Medical Leave Act, wage and overtime issues, sexual harassment, severance and non-compete agreements, employment agreements, breach of contract, failure to promote, whistleblower litigation, Occupational Safety and Health matters, public and private sector employment issues, unemployment benefits, and human resources law.
- Personal injury law: Automobile accidents, slip-and-fall mishaps, premises liability, battery, defamation, and various other tort matters.
Mr. Lebowitz embarked on his legal career nearly three decades ago, initially serving as a judicial law clerk for Judge Steven G. Chappelle at the Circuit Court for Charles County, Maryland, from late 1996 to late 1997. Subsequently, he joined a Baltimore-based law firm as a litigation associate, a position he held for over four years starting in 1997, where he represented a diverse clientele, including prominent retailers such as Home Depot and Sears.
In 2002, Mr. Lebowitz transitioned to an associate role in a law firm in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he practiced civil litigation, particularly emphasizing employment law. By 2004, he established his own practice, the Law Office of Neil R. Lebowitz, LLC, which later evolved into Lebowitz Law Firm.
In terms of his academic credentials, Mr. Lebowitz is an alumnus of the University of Maryland School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree with Honor in 1996. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland at College Park, awarded in 1992, graduating magna cum laude and as a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Since late 2014, Mr. Lebowitz has played an integral role at MELA, initially stepping into the role of vice president and later as president. Over the years, he has been a featured speaker on various topics at MELA’s annual conferences and at other events, Furthermore, he is distinguished by his selection to the list of Maryland’s Super Lawyers for 2024 and 2025.
